USED YAMAHA YPC-31 PICCOLO IN C, PLASTIC BODY, SILVER PLATED HEADJOINT. It plays quite well as it is. This would be a good instrument for a student who doesn’t want to play their good concert piccolo in marching or pep band situations. Plastic body has a few light scratches from day to day wear. Plating on the headjoint shows some minor pitting. There is a small ding in the lip plate. I’ve played the piccolo and the ding was not a factor. Piccolo comes with it’s original case and cleaning rod. The case has 2 different styles of latching mechanisms. It looks odd but holds well. The velvet lining of the case is slightly frayed around the edges. The case is sturdy and will protect this instrument. Heres what we do to all used flutes we sell. The instrument is taken apart and everything washed clean. Dings are next burnished from body, head and foot. After the body-shop works been completed, we swedge hinge-tubes tight again and re-fit them to the flute body. Finally, pads and corks are replaced and the instrument play-tested. Pre 1950 French flutes often require more than twice the restoration time that we need for a modern Haynes or Powell. We use thin double-skin pads of the highest quality and shim each pad in the manner of the best Boston makers. We dont float flute pads with shellac, as did the original Paris workshops. Its in addition to any factory guarantees. For two full years, we will repair or replace, whichever in our estimation is the more advisable, pads, corks, springs or other parts required, at no charge to the customer. Wichita Band Instrument Company maintains a repair department capable of restoration work of the highest quality. Even though repairs are essentially free for the first two years, after that period has expired, we remain at your service to maintain and repair your musical equipment forever. Burkart Cut: The rectangular shape of this embouchure is slightly overcut at the sides of the embouchure hole for an open, “flute-like” sound that blends well in ensembles. A most flexible headjoint style, it can be pushed to the extremes of fortissimo high notes without being shrill, and can produce a colorful, sustained diminuendo. The piccolo sound has a notable presence when used in the ensemble. The players ability to control it with ease is greatly affected by the embouchure shapes. To accommodate differences in the shape of the lips, use of the oral cavity, and direction of the airstream, Lillian Burkart has developed three styles of headjoint for the piccolo. This Ian McLauchlin hardwood grenadilla headjoint is custom made for the Yamaha YPC32 piccolo. (Photographs show the headjoint fitted to the Yamaha instrument and also it fits in the case). Please note it cannot be adjusted to fit other makes of piccolo. This headjoint transforms the tone of the student instrument Yamaha YPC32 completely and is a joy to play. It has a’wave’ or’reform’ shape, giving a more immediate response, and makes articulation easier for many players. This is an affordable way to upgrade the student instrument.
