Up for sale is my 19th. Century wooden piccolo in B. This instrument is in good condition, apart from the missing crown, and in full playing order. There is a neat crack repair to the head, which is sound, and a natural inclusion to the rear of the head (see photos 2 & 3). This instrument plays at A = 440 Hz in B natural, with a sweet, clear voice. It is marked on the head and body J. (see photo 8), dating this piccolo to the late 19th. Antique Vintage Old Wooden Cocus Piccolo Fife Flute Wallis London

Up for sale is my 19th. Century one key Wallis Bb piccolo. This piccolo is in very good condition, without cracks or damage, and the only part missing is the crown. It is made from dark Cocus, although it appears to be Blackwood in the photos, when held in strong sunlight, you can see the distinctive grain pattern and reddish/brown hue. This instrument plays in Bb at A = 440 Hz, using a downwards embouchure, and speaks with a clear, strong voice. Intonation is good for a period instrument, with the C (E on a D flute) requiring slight lipping down. It is clearly stamped on all three sections (see photos 6-7). Beautiful ANTIQUE ROSEWOOD 6 KEY PICCOLO late 19th Century 12 inches (305mm) long Rosewood 6 nickle keys, tuning slide & nickle fittings. Gives voice easily, with a good tone. The key springs are all good, but pads need attention, so it becomes progressively “breathy” as you play down the scale. With the tuning slide set 1/2 way, it plays in A440. The keys all work ok, (but, along with the pads, they would probably benefit from a service). It is in very good, antique condition, with no splits, or repairs to the woodwork (see photos). This is a fine quality , antique instrument, and it would be lovely to play, and make a great addition to any collection. Please see the photos for condition and type weight approx 110 grams. Rare Civil War MARKED & DATED 1862 US Issue Fife, Piccolo, Musician, GIFT

VERY RARE Civil War U. 1862 ISSUE FIFE/PICCOLO, Marked. D ESCRIPTION: Scans show it all….. Black wood Civil War fife, may be ebony. Actually a combination of a fife/piccolo, as it has 4 silver keys. Made of nice smooth ebony. Trimmed with nice German silver hardware, ends, and of course the keys, all with nice patina. Nice appearance overall, and this has the characteristic “swelling” (about 1/8 larger diameter) below the blow hole. Besides the blow hole it has the standard 6 holes for fingering. End has a nice curved wooden plug, to insure that the wind went in the proper direction. Fifes were a popular musical instrument in every regiment and the sound was very military and carried well. A simple fife like this would play 3 octaves of notes!!! This one could have been used as a fife, with the regiment, or as a similar but more sophisticated piccolo in the full regimental band. Stamped faintly just below the blow hole is U. ” and the date “1862. INDICATES THAT IT WAS AN ARMY OWNED AND ISSUED INSTRUMENT, AND POSSIBLY WAS USED BY A REGULAR U. In any event, MARKED FIFES AND INSTRUMENTS ARE FAIRLY UNCOMMON, AND THIS HAS THE ISSUE DATE, 1862, AS WELL, MAKING IT EVEN SCARCER. This is a nice musician item to add to any collection and of course, especially to go with a collection of musical related items. This has been in my collection for many years. End piece also has 4 hand cut “notches” which are neat. Have no idea what they were for, but they obviously meant something to the owner…. One for each year of service?? One for each major battle or campaign? Measures 15 1/2 long. One of the 5 original silver keys is missing, but the other 4 are present and work well. Other than that, the instrument is in excellent condition. This has a great look. Don’t know if it plays, as I don’t know how, but I do not know why it would not. IT CAN BE ADDED TO A DISPLAY OR COLLECTION OR POSSIBLY BE USED IN PARADES OR AROUND THE CAMPFIRE!! You will not find many US or dated fifes today! PLEASE SEE ATTACHED PHOTOS!!
