Cousnon Monopole Piccolo Small Bore Trumpet -Key of D- with all Original Parts

This is a beautiful and rare VINTAGE COUESNON MONOPOLE “Piccolo” TRUMPET in the key of D. Its Serial Number is 42644. The Bore Size is : 0,408 inch / 10,39mm. The Bell Size is: 4.741 inch / 12,04cm. On the bell is written – Monopole (the logo with 2 cocks), Paris, 42644, Made in France. The Monopole series of Cousnon instruments has always represented the highest range of quality. This lovely small bore trumpet is in really good condition. It does have some very small scratches and use tracks. The varnish has a few tiny oxidation marks and there are one or two rare superficial dings. All parts of the trumpet are original parts and have not been replaced. The piston valves are in excellent shape and they move easily. All slides are removable. The compression in the valves is very good. The tone of the trumpet when played is wonderful, bright and very easy to blow. It is supplied with a gold plated 7c trumpet mouthpiece. Couesnon Monopole F/G Trumpet. (Piccolo) 1960’s Vintage, Rare, Collectors

Rare, Collectors: Couesnon Trumpet in F/G. Letter N on the 2. Valve right side, as well as Crest and Conservatoire Paris on the left side. Letter B on lead-pipe receiver. The instrument feels and sounds typically French-styled. There is undoubtedly reach into the classic Maurice Andre / Selmer sound and style. Within its context, the instrument bore is unusually/ interestingly large at 11.56 mm (0.455), which I measured at the first valve pipe. Bell diameter is 120 mm (4.724 inches). I find it warm, open and forgiving. I have never spotted evidence of any previous repair on this instrument. The lacquer sparkles and tiny blemishes are hard to spot. Please zoom in on the area of the leadpipe in line with 2. Valve, to see light surface scuff in the lacquer here. I don’t want to buff it too vigorously. The valves are quite pristine and glide beautifully. This instrument is a tribute to great master-craftsmen of its time. Devotees will know that Couesnon serial number records were lost in a fire, (two, in fact), and so the serial number 37495 confirms little. The last digit is not penned in, but this confirms that it is a 1960s vintage. Four other mouthpieces will also be supplied, that I have found to work well on the instrument. They have been altered in a way that they can only be fitted to this instrument. Their outer shanks have been specially milled to take the place of the removable/ tunable lead-pipe receiver; consequently, bypassing the need to use cornet shanks. I found this innovation to be very successful. These pieces are as follows. Jupiter 10 ½ C. Engineered and nickel-plated identical copy of the Amati 7EW that I use on my YTR 9830 (My favorite). Couesnon Monopole Star Long-Bell Piccolo Trumpet

Serial number is 41369. This instrument has given me excellent service since I acquired it used thirty years ago. Before then it had been repaired where the lead pipe curves down toward the third valve. There is a small dent in the second valve tubing. Otherwise the instrument is in great condition; the compression is excellent, the valves work smoothly, and the trumpet plays wonderfully. The letter N on the second valve (below the dented tubing) evidently identifies the person responsible for assembling the valve block; see the explanation at The Trumpet Herald. This is the type of instrument that David Mason played for the piccolo trumpet solo on The Beatles’s Penny Lane. See the photographs included in this listing that show the Beatles rehearsing for the Our World live satellite television broadcast at Studio One, EMI Studios, London, June 25th, 1967 photographer unknown; see The Beatles through the looking glass onion. Mason participated in this session; you can see his instruments as well as George Harrison clowning around with Mason’s Couesnon piccolo trumpet. Evidently Mason’s model was the Monopole Conservatoire, not the Monopole Star, but because the Couesnon factory was destroyed in 1969 it is impossible to differentiate models and date instruments according to serial numbers. Vintage Couesnon Paris Monopole Conservatoires Piccolo Trumpet! NORESERVE

Bb & A Leadpipe included. Serial number is 33486. The bell measures about 4″ in diameter and the horn is about 17″ in length. This vintage horn is in overall good used condition. The horn has some smaller dingss and it could use a complete cleaning and polishing but overall a good little rare horn. The slides are free and the three valves move freely and feel good when played. The lacquer is scratched and pitted in some areas as you can see.
