This is a Geoffrey Ellis Quena Flute, Black/Red ebonite in the Key of G. The Quena is a traditional flute of the Andes. Typically in the Key of G (as is this one), it has six holes and a thumb hole that plays the diatonic major (do re mi) scale. It’s known for its distinct timber and strong voice. Ellis has approached Quena making from a more traditional direction, making both cylindrical bored and tapered bore quenas. Ebonite is a natural hard rubber, and an excellent choice of material for many reasons. You can see the skill of his work just by looking at this quena – absolutely amazing. This particular quena is in excellent, near mint condition. Just a few scuffs, nothing that effects its performance in any capacity.
