Yamaha YPC-81 Piccolo Grenadilla Wood Professional Flute Tested Used. YAMAHA YPC-81 Piccolo – Excellent Condition (S/N: 21830). This listing is for a YAMAHA YPC-81 Piccolo in great condition. Body Material: Grenadilla Wood. Keys: Nickel Silver with Silver Plating. Cleaning rod included (not shown in photos). Used for about 5 years in a community orchestra, alternating with the flute. After leaving the orchestra, mostly unused for 10 years. Used for 1 year by a child in a marching band, then stored unused for another 2 years. Previous overhauls or pad replacements are unknown, but a balance adjustment and maintenance were done before giving it to my child. Since the main instrument was the flute, the pads and key plating remain in relatively good condition. Tested recently, and it plays smoothly from the lowest to the highest notes. It made in JAPAN. The surface metal is tarnished. Tampos (pads) and corks are treated as consumable items and should be replaced or repaired. The head pipe, which greatly affects the sound, is made of silver, which produces a mellow and deep tone. The balance between the resonance of the white copper used for the tube pipe and the ease of resonance broadens the range of expression. As this is an used product, there are scratches, stains, color peeling, dullness, small dents, and other signs of use and age that do not interfere with its operation. Antique grenadilla wood – no cracks, intricate key work inlay tone holes. E’ Piccolo/flute made by top flute makers William and George of the JC Haynes company BOSTON MA. (flute makers late 1800s -early 1900s Boston, MA BAYSTATE was their first name brand). Later, they made silver, gold and other wooden flutes (wooden flutes ended 1918). Read their history here.
