Haynes Schwelm Flute serial 362140

Haynes is one of the very top names in American Flutes, favored by famous flautists the world over, including the renowned Jean-Pierre Rampal. This flute is from the company owned by his son, William W. Haynes, and his partner, John Schwelm. This flute is what Haynes-Schwelm termed their “Regular” model, which might be construed as an intermediate level student flute. It is a “C” flute, closed holed and chrome plated. The body is in excellent condition overall, with no dents and only a couple almost imperceptible dings. The chrome is in great shape too, with some missing at the cap, and slight miscoloring on the chrome from wear and age. The flute comes in what is presumed to be its original hard case, and with a cleaning rod.

Haynes Wood Flute with Silver Keys, Open Holes & Split E, Needs Adjust Not Playing

This listing is for the flute with an unfinished overhaul. The flute is not playing and will require several hundred dollars of work to get the new pads sealing well and bumper materials added. It is priced accordingly. If you would like the flute in playing order, see my other listings for the same flute with finished overhaul. One of a kind antique wooden Wm. S Haynes flute #989. Converted to open holes with split E mechanism by master flutemaker Kiko Candelaria. Being an antique it is likely “low pitch” more centered around A-435 vs. Today’s standard of A-440 but in the grand scheme of things 5 cents isn’t so far off and it’s possible to play the flute at modern pitch with a little effort. Granted you may not want to play this flute in an orchestra setting with extremely rigid tuning requirements, it has a very special voice absolutely worth being heard in smaller ensembles such as harp, other flutes, strings, etc. It’s possible a modern headjoint would further bring up the pitch to 440 or beyond. I play one of these myself and have no problem with tuning with others. Repaired crack in headjoint which seals perfectly. Open holes, offset G, split E mechanism, C footjoint. I can recommend a few options. Once of a lifetime chance at a vintage Haynes with these specs!

Haynes Piccolo Silver Hand Made #8101 1924 Db closed hole

From the private collection of Sound Investments USA LLC. He had a collection Sound Investments’ bought. Information from the Haynes site. Serial number 8101 = 1924. Handmade November 21, 1924. There are just a few tiny pin head sized dings hard to show in the photos. Not much at all in the way of wear from an exactly 100-year-old Piccolo. The pads are shown and up to the new owner if they want to replace the pads. All keys function properly. Please see our reviews. Thanks for your interest. This is a very nice wood Haynes C piccolo head joint! It has been recently repaired no leaks! And cork assembly added. New crown has mother-of-pearl inlay. This is going to make someone very happy!
