Haynes Schwelm Symphony flute soldered toneholes serviced
This is a Haynes-Schwelm “Symphony” model flute from pre-1950. Closed hole, C foot, offset G, silverplated model with – of all things! – soldered toneholes throughout! Has just had a servicing to include adjustment, replacement of one trill key pad, low C# & C foot joint pads, worn cork key pads, and installation of a new headjoint cork. Though this flute is silverplated, it is incredibly hefty and high quality, and possesses a huge sound! It is very lively and resonant, particularly in the third octave. Intonation is great, and projection is amazing! When this flute was made, it was considered a higher-end model than the typical Haynes-Schwelm flutes due to its soldered toneholes. It does play surprisingly well for a fully silverplated plateau design, as I hope you can hear in the video. There are typical signs of use for a flute of this vintage, including minor surface scratches and scuffs. There is some plating wear I’ve tried to show on the Eb, Ab, and thumb keys. The body, foot, and head are free from dents and dings. The pads are in well-used but solid condition. Comes in a used leather Muramatsu flute case with blue velvet interior which does show significant signs of use. Overall, the case is sturdy and protective, and both latches work properly.
