YAMAHA Custom Snare Drum – SD6103. 14 x 3.5 – Seamless Copper Shell. Made in Japan – OL-1868 (May 1998). PLEASE READ THE FULL DESCRIPTION!! DETAILED DESCRIPTION – Part by Part. 14 x 3.5 Seamless Copper Shell. The Shell is in very good condition, but does have some light cosmetic flaws. However, there are no cracks, dents, or any kind of major damage. There are some spots of oxidation or light streaks of rust. The pictures show almost all of these oxidation spots, and I have included a closeup of the worst instance, a somewhat larger spot located next to one of the lugs near the DYNAHOOP stickers. There are also some light scratches throughout most the shell. No extra holes have been drilled! Custom Snare Drum – SD6103 / OL-1868. The Badge is in very good condition and is secured tightly to the shell. It does have a few minor cosmetic flaws such as scratches or tiny chips. You can see all of these flaws clearly in the closeup picture of the badge I have provided. This snare drum has a 2-Letter (w/ #s)’Serial #': OL1868. Yamaha used the’Serial #’ with 2 Letters & 4 Numbers for all drums made in Japan between December 1984 – October 2001. OL indicates that this drum was made in 1998 May. NOTE: The current Yamaha Drums dating guide online incorrectly states that this serial no. This serial no with 2-letters and 4 numbers was actually used of drums made in Japan in December 1984 – October 2001. Yamaha switched to the 3-Letter Serial for some drums made in Indonesia during the mid-late 1990s, and then for all drums by the end of October 2001. It is important to keep in mind the era / time period that a certain Drum was made, when using the Serial No. To determine the date that a specific drum was manufactured. I have my own dating chart that I made to fix all of the issues with the two Yamaha dating guides you can currently find online. I can provide it upon request. YAMAHA – Standard Air Vent w/ Gasket. The Air Vent is in excellent condition and appears to be tightly secured to the shell with no rattling or spinning. The P-Type Throw-Off is completely original, and has no functional damage. The majority of snares I find with this Throw-Off have significantly bent adjustment knobs, but this is one of the few rare ones I have not needed to repair. I closely examined it and noticed that it may possibly be very slightly bent, but it is barely noticeable and nothing like the damaged ones I have had to repair in the past. I made one small change to improve the function of this Throw-Off, and that is to add a small metal washer under the strainer handle to the screw that secures the knob piece to the rest of the strainer. This puts some more space around the strainer handle and allows it to move more smoothly. If you end up wanting to remove this small metal washer, I can give you instructions for how to do so. The B-Type Butt is completely original and fully functional. There may be some minor cosmetic flaws such as light scratches or pitting, but no damage of any kind. Both sides of the Strainer include a black plastic gasket underneath them and the original mounting hardware. (x10) Piccolo Snare Lugs. The Lugs are all complete and original with all of the necessary internal parts. They are all completely functional with no damage, though they may have some cosmetic flaws such as light scratches or pitting. All of the lugs include the original PLNT-5 locking lug nuts, but I replaced all of the rubber O-Rings with brand new ones that perfectly match the specifications of the originals. All of the lugs also include a black plastic gasket underneath. YAMAHA Dyna Hoops – Triple-Flanged 2.3mm Steel. One of the Hoops is not original, but they are both genuine YAMAHA Dynahoops. The snare-side hoop is original, and the batter hoop is a replacement from another snare drum. They are almost identical with the exception of the fine print on the stickers. The snare-side hoop says YAMAHA CORPORATION MADE IN TAIWAN, while the batter side just says MADE IN TAIWAN. Im not sure why the stickers are different, but the batter hoop is from a snare drum made in May 2001, so exactly 3 years later than this one. The snare-side hoop sticker also appears to be in a different location than it usually would be, which is the panel between the badge and the butt. Both of the hoops are in good condition with no functional damage. There are some cosmetic flaws such as scratches, pitting, or light streaks of rust. The snare-side hoop seems to be in slightly worse condition than the batter hoop. There is one spot on the top of the batter hoop that appears like it may be a small dent. However, I have seen spots like this on similar hoops, and may just be part of the manufacturing process. It is very hard to see, but can be felt by running your finger across it. Im including this information in the interest of full disclosure, but I do not believe that it affects the function or tuning in any way. (x20) 40mm Tension Rods. All of the Tension Rods are original and include the metal washers. They are free of any thread damage or rust. YAMAHA 25-Strand Carbon Steel (Missing 2 Wires). These Snare Wires are not original, and I believe that they are different than what wouldve originally been installed on the snare drum. They are genuine YAMAHA 25-Strand Carbon Steel Snare Wires. They have some damage, but they are still functional as is. Two of the outer wires are missing and some of the others are lightly stretched.
