AUGUST RICHARD HAMMIG (137/2) GRENADILLA WOOD PICCOLO – FULLY REPADDED. Hammig are renowned piccolo makers and are coveted by some of the world’s top players. B etween 1906 and 1920 the brothers Philipp Hammig and August Richard Hammig started to specialize the instrument making of the Hammig workshop. First both started learning their profession in their fathers workshop, then August Richard Hammig went to Saarbrücken and Philipp Hammig to Berlin to the firm Rittershausen to study specialized flute making. 5% DISCOUNT – Can be offered, please contact me for details. This particular piccolo is marked 137 2 and also 1941, which we believe may have been the date of manufacture. The mechanism, keys and headjoint are all made from nickel silver and the mechanism and keys show sign of age. I have known players to silver plate the keys and mechanism but we have left this as original and cleaned. The headjoint is the original metal head with ebonite lip, very common for this time. The lip is formed into a wave style and helps to focus the sound. We have stripped the mechanism down, oiled, cleaned and then repadded in cork. The condition of the wood is excellent and the seasoned Grenadilla has aged beautifully with no cracks or repairs. The piccolo plays well and holds the tone nicely. It doesn’t have the finesse of sound that a modern Hammig has, this is to be expected, but it has a lovely tone and one can always have another head made for the body. I have priced low purely on condition of the nickel silver and the metal head but this is a rare and sought-after maker. I can offer a discount as mentioned above and please contact me for details. Factory original drum – except used batter head. This model ST1340BN snare was available in 2010. It has been kept in the weatherproof soft faux-leather Tama case when not in use. This version has a thicker shell (1.2mm), compared to the current Metalworks 1mm black Steel Shell line. The black nickel finish of this snare looks really classy, too. Especially the contrast between the shell and hoops. Make a reasonable offer or BIN immediately. This drum is also available on Reverb. If needed, more photos available there. I have fully scrutinized this drum and conservatively determined it is in very good used condition. This drum is NOT mint. But, as youll see, shes a beauty still. There are very lite micro-scratches on the lugs and rims. Integrity of the shell and edges are excellent. Nickel finish is very clean. Just a few superficial micro-scratches/nicks. Badge is clean. Rims are good. But, batter has some nicks. Original bottom head is clear. Top Evans is good. Both tune up fine. Original Starclassic snare wires are excellent. Strainer is excellent. Rods and steel/plastic washers are very good. Just some very mild fade on some rods. This is an exceptional used drum with no real issues of concern. This is one stellar snare for the player, recording engineer or collector. The sound, of course, is exceptional. Please examine all photos.
