Vintage Camco 3 1/2 x14 Oaklawn Jazz Model Snare # 702-P. If you’re reading this you already know how rare and collectible this snare is. This is the 8 lug maple Model with the original rolled COB hoops. Camco only made this model for a couple of years and hardly any of these are around anymore, especially the wood version. When I received the snare it didn’t have the original beer tap strainer and butt, but had extra holes where a replacement strainer and butt had been. The black wrap was in poor shape and it was removed and the holes were properly plugged with solid maple dowels. I sent the shell to Precision Drum who did an amazing job of recovering it in a beautiful Silver Sparkle wrap. Shell is solid with no cracks, chips or gouges and the bearing edges are original and in superb condition. I added a George Way/ Dunnett reproduction strainer and butt, and a set of Puresound wires. The factory Oaklawn badge is clean and tight to the shell. Original early George Way solid lugs, 1st Generation COB rolled hoops, short Camco t-rods and chubby washers. The resonant COB hoop has a very small hairline split which can be seen in the picture just below the drum key holder. It was nicely attended to with a bit of JB Weld and it’s completely solid. The drum key holder is original Camco but the drum key is not. Top head is a coated Remo Diplomat and the resonant an Evans clear. This is a rare piece of Camco history. Vintage Camco 3 1/2 x14 Oaklawn Jazz Model Snare. If you’re reading this you already know how rare and collectible this snare is. Unfortunately, somewhere along the line extra holes were drilled on both the strainer and butt side. When I received the snare it had no strainer or butt, no drum key holder or key and no snare wires. The jet black wrap is original and in very good condition with the exception of the holes obviously. Oaklawn badge is clean and tight to the shell. Original early George Way solid lugs, 1st Generation COB rolled hoops, short t-rods and chubby washers. The resonant COB hoop has a very small split which can be seen in the picture just below the drum key holder. It’s not going anywhere but a touch of JB Weld on the inside might be appropriate. I was able to find an original drum key holder, and ordered a George Way/ Dunnett reproduction strainer and butt along with a new set of Puresound wires so I could put the snare together. In the pictures of the strainer and butt you’ll see that I put some black tape on the outside to cover the holes… Mainly to see what it would look like if the holes weren’t there. There are a number of things that could be done to the shell… Plug the holes and patch to match the existing wrap, plug and rewrap the snare completely… Or leave it like it is and let the new owner decide what to do. In my opinion it would be best to just leave it like it is, which is what I’m doing. This is a really amazing snare and it sounds incredible.
