Bremond, Geneva around 1880. The case measures 36 x 16 x 10 inches (92 x 41 x 25.5 cms) and features canted corners and is veneered overall with beautiful honey coloured walnut with kingwood banding and ebonized mouldings. It has a’cushion’ lid, with the reverse of birds eye maple veneer with kingwood banding. The ebonized interior has an inner glass lid with fretted corners. The case was expertly polished some years ago and retains its beautiful smooth finish. The large movement is. And very well made, stamped on the governor cock is the BAB motif for the makers BA Bremond. This company made some of the best large music boxes in the 1870’s and 80’s, many of which were exported to the U. Their trade mark was the lyre, a representation of which forms the central mounting for the’zither’ bar above the comb.
