L Lebret #2912 handmade antique French silver plated piccolo flute c. 1900 Lovely C piccolo flute carefully handmade in Paris by Louis Léon Joseph Lebret circa 1900, former Louis Lot employee. Serial number is #2912. Lip plate engraving: “Lebret Paris”. L Lebret Paris Fournisseur du Conservatoire 2,912 Déposé. This “time capsule” instrument is in full original condition, never modified, certainly with its original pads. Clearly, this piccolo has been played only several months by its original owner, then safely stored by the family in a dry closet until now. After a careful disassembling and examination, we can’t find any wear on the keys and mechanics. The tone holes are perfect. This gorgeous Lebret piccolo plays on its original pads with this rich, deep and singing sound from the French golden era, in the tradition established by Louis Lot and Auguste Bonneville. Please look at the perfect oval cut of the embouchure hole! Lower notes sound thin: the piccolo will need new pads. Full length: 323 mm. Sounding length: 267 mm. Plays at 440 Hz. This piccolo comes in its original case in excellent condition. Very few remain on the market today : they are so cherished by professional musicians and sought after by collectors. “Time Caps eule” A. Lecomte & Cie handmade antique French wooden Db piccolo flute circa 1900 Lovely Db piccolo flute carefully handmade in Paris by Arsène Zoë Lecomte between 1890 and 1910. L&Cie (tuning fork)/A. According to The New Langwill Index , Arsène Zoë Lecomte was trained by Gautrot Aîné before creating his own shop. This “time capsule” instrument is in full original condition, never modified, certainly with its original pads. Clearly, this piccolo has been played only several months by its original owner, then safely stored by the family in a dry closet until now. After a careful disassembling and examination, we can’t find any wear on the keys and mechanics. The tone holes are perfect. The grain and texture of the flammed exotic wood is absolutely delicious. This gorgeous Lecomte piccolo plays pretty well on its original pads with this rich, deep and singing sound from the French golden era, in the tradition established by Louis Lot and Auguste Bonneville. Please look at the perfect oval cut of the embouchure hole! No visible cracks or repaired cracks in the wood except one on the end cap. Plays pretty well from low to high notes but would certainly benefit from new pads and corks. Sounding length: 247 mm. Full length: 301 mm Plays at 440 Hz. Comes in a delicious french wooden case in very good condition. Very few remain on the market today : they are so cherished by professional musicians and sought after by collectors. Interesting very rare and old csakan/ flageolet or piccoloflute made of wood with a BONE? It reads “gautrot Aine Brevete Paris” and showes the Gautrot monogram. The instrument is in nice used condition with no cracks, but needs service. (see pic) The instrument measures 13 3/4 Inch /34,5cm (without the bone mouthpiece) The sounding length is 6 3/4 Inch (17cm). It has 5 keys and 4 holes (at the front). Louis Lot Ring Key Piccolo. No serial number-Made c. Restored to Playing Condition. For Any Louis Lot Fan or Collector! There’s just something magical about the sound of an old French flute or piccolo. And this one made by the master himself, Louis Lot! This beautiful piccolo was in the possession of a famous professional musician who recently passed at the age of 95. This was his treasure and he was still using it for recording sessions! It was recently repaired less than a year ago because the tenon had snapped off and was lost. I fitted a new tenon out of brass, not silver, because the owner needed the instrument in a couple of days and that’s all I had in the shop. Even after this the piccolo was in need of a lot of work. So he brought it back to me a week later and I cleaned it, fixed a huge headjoint crack and fitted the instrument with all new pads and corks. The cork pads had to be covered in leather to insure a tight seal over worn and irregular tone holes. Nothing mechanically was changed. The mechanical condition is quite worn and the screw and post threads also very worn. Everything was left original to insure the highest value for a collector. The only part which is not original is the tenon. Despite the apparent wear, this piccolo can be played! All of the notes work from top to bottom. And the tone is amazing! This instrument does play at a lower pitch than we use today in orchestras. Therefore it would be best used to play on recordings where the other musicians can tune down to the A=435 pitch. Here we have one of the finest and most unusual piccolos from the era of the master French flute makers. The ring key system does not imploy your ordinary ring keys which when depressed surround the tone hole. Those piccolos have rings as on a clarinet where the fingers actually cover the tone holes. In this fine example, the tone holes are too large for the fingers to cover, so the ring also includes a pad in the shape of a donut. The pad is made of cork with a thing layer of leather to improve the seal. Someone wishing to study this design and perhaps recreate it, or someone wishing to study the development of the piccolo would gain a lot of insight from this instrument. Flute and piccolo makers, collectors and players, take a look at this instrument: for the sound, for the design, for the history! No reasonable offer will be refused.
