This is an LA benge piccolo trumpet. It was formerly owned by a player in a major orchestra and has been used to record Bachs b minor mass. It comes with both the stock benge pipes in a and b flat and Blackburn pipes as well. The stock A pipe was damaged and then repaired with a sleeve. The sleeve may effect tuning because it cant be pushed in as far. There is some plating loss but overall the Horn has been very well cared for. It plays wonderfully and has a huge sound. There are NO DENTS, dings, or major scratches on this beautiful horn. The finish is about 95% with some silver coming off at the valve finger buttons. The finish on the rest of the horn is great. The intonation of the horn is better than most piccolo trumpets. The serial number puts the date of manufacture in the range of 1991 to 2005. This horn was manufactured in the (UMI/Conn-Selmer) Benge era, and the trumpet website are still arguing over which era is best. This horn comes with an key of “A” leadpipe, “B-flat” leadpipe, and a case (nothing shown in the background of these pictures come with the horn). The B-flat leadpipe takes a regular trumpet mouthpiece. I did not check the “A” leadpipe before I boxed it up since I never play in that key. Benge Piccolo Bb and A Trumpet. Made in the LA Plant. 3 1/2 Inch Bell. 420 bore measured on inside of first valve slide. Serial Number 42, XXX- from 1983. Another trumpet being thinned from my friends collection – Every trumpet player can use a piccolo trumpet and as a trombonist I consider them deadly weapons. Some are more listener friendly than others. Benge piccolo trumpets – especially the ones from the LA plant are among the less deadly with a warmer sweeter sound when played gently by a good player. The individual instrument will NOT make you a good piccolo player but having the right horn will at least give you a good chance. This one is in very good playing condition with absolutely excellent valves. Fast smooth and free with a good compression “pop” when pressed against the pulled slide. Nice thing about pics is that none of them get very much playing time. They tend to sit for long periods in the case. This one has just a few pinpoint dings keeping it from being dent free. It does have some lacquer finish challenges however despite living its life in the original case in a warm dry home. Look at the pictures closely. It is still a good looking trumpet but no longer looks new when examined. From a stage distance it looks fine. I have scoured this horn looking for a model number and cannot find one – I guess it is simply the pro level piccolo trumpet that Benge made in 1983 It does have both the Bb and A leadpipes. Comes with a Bach 7E mouthpiece and the original case. My friend could make this horn sing. It has many more songs to play.
