Premier Olympic Discus vintage piccolo snare drum 14
Vintage Premier Olympic Discus piccolo snare drum. Late 1950s / early 1960s vintage with no badge. (I understand that the earliest versions of this range were un-badged). 14 x 4 deep. Irch shell, 3 ply with supporting re rings, is in excellent condition; as is the r. Ed silk pearl wrap. 8 offset lugs, and slot headed tension rods. A tensioning key comes with the drum. Snare throw may not be original; (I believe the original was of “beer-tap” design), but there is no evidence of drilling on the shell, and it is of similar vintage, and works perfectly. It has the original internal damper, which works well. There is a practically new Remo Fiberskyn batter head, and it has a set of. Blend Hybrid 42 snare wire. It may be old enough to be a collector’s item, but it’s in full playing condition, has been used regularly on a practice kit, and is ready to go. It’s a splendid snare drum with a great sound, tuned down or up. Warm tone and fast, positive response. At some time in it’s life this drum has been splashed with small spots of white paint. This is hardly noticeable, but I’ve tried to show it in my photos. I’ve not tried very hard to remove these small splashes, just using soap and water, because I didn’t want to risk damaging the finish of the shell. I’ve also tried to illustrate small imperfections in both top and bottom hoops. These are probably where they were welded during manufacture. Again, these are scarcely noticeable, and they don’t affect the seating of the hoops or heads – or the playability of the drum. It’s in remarkable condition for a 60 year old drum. There is very little pitting or deterioration of the chrome and fittings. It’s a treasure to own and a joy to play.
